Borders enters final week before closing for good; now offering up to 90% off store inventory!

It’s the last week before Borders, Waldenbooks and Borders Express stores close their doors for good…and they’ve increased their discounts to 70-90% off remaining store inventory.  Apparently these discounts are valid in-store only, and apply to original prices of items. It’s not clear if they’re offering additional discounts on sale items.

They’re also trying to unload all of their furniture and fixtures, so if you are in the market for some bookcases, perhaps you can still snag some good deals on those items as well. Maybe nab something with the Borders logo for some memorabilia that might be worth a pretty penny on ebay one day after they’re long-gone…

Gift cards are still being accepted, but all sales are final! And rewards points are no longer being honored.

Visit the Borders website to find a store near you that might still be open.

Borders savings continue with 3-day sale; buy more save more!

As the countdown continues for Borders to close its doors for good, their savings continue with a 3-day sale where the more you buy, the more you’ll save.

From August 15-17, 2011, here are the savings:

  • Buy 6 items or more, save an additional 10% on your entire purchase
  • Buy 8 items or more, save an additional 15% on your entire purchase

These additional discounts are available on any combination of books, DVDs, CDs, Blu-Ray and more from the stores’ entire stock. The savings is on top of their sale prices, which are ranging from 30%-50% (depending on the type of item you buy, and sometimes specific titles).

Keep in mind, these discounts are also in-store only! The deals are not being applied to the online store (not sure what’s going to happen there).  They also apply to all Waldenbooks and Borders Express stores.

Visit to find a store near you that’s still open.

Stay tuned for more updates on the Borders going out of business sale!

Borders Going Out of Business Sale starts today

Although Borders recently closed several stores in an attempt to survive their bankruptcy, they have now announced that they were not able to find a buyer, and the company is completely going out of business. All Borders, Borders Express and Waldenbooks stores are closing for good, and the in-store liquidation sales start today.

You can currently save 40% off the original price of all in-store items–and as we saw with the previous liquidation sales, that discount will surely increase over the next few weeks as they bring business to a close. It’s not clear what they will do with their online inventory at this point, but I’m sure we’ll be seeing heavy discounts there as well.

If you have Borders Rewards points, now’s the time to use them, because they’ll only be valid until 7/31/2011.  Borders Rewards Plus members will continue to receive discounts for a limited time, and gift cards will still be accepted.

The remaining stores in South Florida are:

As always, if you’re looking for a specific item, I recommend to check pricing against competitors like Amazon where you might end up saving 46% or more being that you won’t have to pay tax (and can usually get free shipping if your purchase is over $25, or if you’re an Amazon Prime member).  But if you’re going to brave the stores, give yourself a couple of hours, because people will most likely flock there to see what deals they can score–especially this weekend.  The lines were a mile long at the first set of liquidation sales here in Broward County.

For more information, visit the Borders website or the Borders Group site to view details about the closing of the business.
