Six ways to stretch your Groupon savings even further
If you haven’t discovered Groupon yet, you’re missing out. Groupon is a website that offers deeply discounted deals on restaurants, spas, events and more in your city for a limited time (usually one day), based on a group-buying model. So you’ll save 50-90% on a deal but only if the deal “tips”–meaning that a certain number of people must buy the deal before it’s available to everyone. (And I have never seen a deal NOT tip, just FYI).
Although they originally used to offer one deal per city for 24 hours, now you’ll see numerous deals that run 2-3 days at a time, and more than one at a time for a particular city.
So you’re saving quite a bit of money already with the deals, but here are some additional ways you can stretch those savings even further:
Earn Delta Skymiles - If you’re a Delta SkyMiles member, you can login to the Delta Skymiles Shopping Mall and shop Groupon through their link. You’ll earn 7 miles for every dollar you spend, and earn your Delta travel miles even faster.
Earn United Mileage Plus miles - If you’re a United Mileage Plus member, Groupon has partnered with them and you can earn 6 miles for every dollar you spend on Groupons. Simply visit their shopping mall and search for “Groupon” in from the main page.
Earn eBay Bucks - If you’re an eBay member, you can purchase your Groupon through eBay’s website, and earn 5% extra eBay bucks! The only requirement is that you must have an eBay account, and shop via their link. This is a great way to earn extra bucks to spend on eBay if you’re a frequent bidder.
Refer your friends and earn Groupon bucks – Get $10 in Groupon Bucks when someone you invite buys their first Groupon. You can then use the Bucks to purchase future vouchers. Once you’re a member, Groupon gives you a unique referral code that you can tweet, put on Facebook, or email to friends. I have already earned quite a few Bucks this way!
Shop through BigCrumbs.com and get 6.4% cashback – BigCrumbs is a free shopping site that offers cashback at different retailers and online stores. If you register on their site and then search for Groupon, you can shop through their link (just like you would on your airline shopping mall) and earn 6.4% cashback when you purchase a Groupon deal. You can also earn BigCrumbs cash back when you refer friends and they shop via the website.
Use a credit card that offers rewards when you pay for your Groupon – I’m not a fan of having credit card debt, but when shopping online it’s a good idea to use a credit card (not debit card) or PayPal to protect yourself. And of course, any purchases should be done via a rewards credit card so you can either earn more miles, get more cashback, or earn rewards points with your credit card company. I typically use my Amex Blue or Amazon Visa card for my Groupon purchases to maximize those savings and earn rewards faster! I am willing to bet that in the near future, Groupon will come up with a rewards credit card–but in the meantime, be sure to pay with a card that will get you the most return.
So not only are you saving some cashola already with the deals, you’re earning rewards! Just remember to follow one of the links before purchasing your Groupon, to maximize your deals (if you want to earn eBay, Delta United or BigCrumbs rewards).
So what are you waiting for? Start rewarding yourself at Groupon, on the double!

I love daily deals and love cash back sites even more. What I like to do is pick a deal I am going to buy, then going to compare the cash back sites using http://www.cashreporter.com
Thanks Rosie! That’s a great site to find out about, wasn’t aware of it. And it seems like shopping via Discover (if you have a Discover card) will actually get you 15% cashback…something I wouldn’t have known about if you hadn’t mentioned cashreporter.com! So thanks a million for that…
Amazon and Walmart allow you to add any increment to your gift card, so in the event the balance is $2. 95 and you wish to make an online buy, calculate the total fee at checkout then go back and buy a gift card to the remaining amount. With every luck, this policy will certainly catch on with various other merchants and services.
Generally I don’t read post on blogs, but I wish to say that this write-up very forced me to try and do so! Your writing style has been amazed me. Thanks, quite nice article.
