Daily deals have arrived for moms, babies and kids

After discovering Groupon and other daily deal websites a few months ago, I thought to myself–what about daily deals geared toward moms? Because I didn’t see a lot of deals coming through that really targeted things to do for kids, or baby clothes and toys.

Great minds think alike…because I found a few sites out there that offer daily deals on baby/kid stuff. So I thought I’d spread the word and share the savings.

Zulily.com is a site that offers what they call daily deals, but not in the same way that Groupon and LivingSocial do. Instead of a voucher for a local merchant, it’s more like access to “private sales” from various vendors–and they feature a lot of upscale items. Usually the deals run for a few days, and offer up to 70% off different products online.  The only catch? There’s a limited supply of the products, and when they’re gone, that’s it. But I’ve seen some really adorable clothes and toys on there, from stores like Ed Hardy, Bumkins, and Laura Dane.

For me, it’s somewhat time consuming and confusing to try to keep track of all the offers and when they’re expiring, but they do have some really nice items for sale.  And it’s free to sign up with them.

I also discovered BabySteals.com and KidSteals.com (run by the same company). They basically offer one quality baby or maternity product every day on BabySteals.com at 50%- 80% off,  and a single product from one hot brand each day at Kidsteals.com at up to 80% off until it sells out.

They offer two “steals” per day–one at 9am MDT and another at 9pm MDT until they’re gone, and believe you me–they sell out fast!  Sometimes I’ve checked the website just a few minutes after the deal is on, and they’re gone.

Just like on Zulily.com, unfortunately once they sell out, you lost out. On the weekends though, they give you a second chance on steals they still have, and you might get lucky and find more than one Steal a Day.

I’ve snagged some great stuff on BabySteals.com (like BabyLegs for half price) but you have to make sure the shipping doesn’t add so much on to your order that it defeats the purpose of the discount.  (I always double check prices on Amazon for the items since I get free shipping there).  Also one thing I wish BabySteals would do, is allow customers to create an account. But they don’t, so you have to enter everything in each time you purchase something. They use Google Checkout for processing, so at least the information is saved there, but I prefer having an actual customer account.

In any case, these are some great sites to help you offset some of the costs of being a parent! And to be able to treat your little ones to some goodies, without breaking your bank.

Let me know if you snag any great deals!

Calling all Moms or Moms-to-Be! Don’t miss the savings at the Lolliposh consignment event October 14-17, 2010

Back in 2008 when I was pregnant and trying to snag some good used maternity clothes, I stumbled on a really amazing event called Lolliposh. Lolliposh is an upscale consignment event held in Sunrise, FL.  They offer the public the opportunity to buy and sell both brand new and gently used boutique and brand name clothing, toys, furniture and accessories for babies, kids, and now, expectant mothers.

Only the highest quality brands are accepted and sold, including Gymboree, The Children’s Place, Guess, Old Navy, Gap/Baby Gap, Kenneth Cole, Ralph Lauren,Limited Too, Baby Lulu, Zara and much more! Personally, I don’t care about “brand names”–I know some people do–I was just interested in getting discounts on things we needed for our upcoming baby.  And boy did I ever get the discounts and great items!

If you volunteer for the event or you’re a new mom-to-be, you get access to the private pre-sale held before the sale goes public. I’m all about that! I want to get my hands on the best stuff before anyone else does. LOL.

You can also be a Consignor and sell your items there (though I believe they’re already at capacity for the October event).

Lolliposh is bar none the BEST place I’ve found to get clothing for babies and toddlers–but I’ll warn you, you can spend HOURS just going through the clothes! And you can go crazy with it there are so many cute outfits.  I know I did.

I saved a fortune on baby clothes for my little one, not to mention found such beautiful things–and some clothes still had the tags on them. We scored some brand new toys for ridiculous prices–$10.00 for a Fisher Price Stride to Ride Lion still unopened in the box (that normally sells between $40.00 and $50.00), $8.00 for a brand new FAO Schwartz Safari Bowling Set (normally close to $30.00), and so much more. There are fantastic deals on items like bassinets, cribs, strollers, walker, and exersaucers.

We got a swing for our baby for about $20.00, a rocking horse for $15.00, and even a Graco Pack n Play with bassinet for about $45.00  if I recall correctly.  I also got an awesome $40.00 Diaper Bag for me (never used, tags still on) for $10.00, and some fantastic children’s books (like Miss Spider’ s Tea Party) for a couple of dollars each.

We spend so much money on baby and kid things that they outgrow so quickly, I figured why pay full price?  And I can tell you that Lolliposh only accepts items that are new or like new–I’ve been an inspector for them and they are very serious about making sure the items are in the best condition possible.

Lolliposh is the vision of three South Florida Moms, and good friends: Lina Uribe, Juliana Ruiz and Alejandra Marrero-Brelage–and they are three of the nicest gals you could ever meet. I’ve volunteered for two events now, and they are just terrific to work with. (They certainly remember me because of the insane amount of clothing I always buy!) I’m looking forward to helping them out again in a few weeks.

Their story in a nutshell:

As mothers of infants and toddlers (7 combined!) we each had tons of clothing, toys and baby equipment that we no longer needed, but were interested in selling. We weren’t willing to sweat & haggle in garage sales, or open up our homes to strangers through Craigslist. We were looking for quick and easy gratification!

We visited a few local consignment shops, but realized we wanted something different!
We wanted a place where our excellent-quality, brand-name items would not be overlooked by items that were more noticeably worn and used.

And most importantly, we wanted to set our own prices and receive payment within days, not weeks nor months!

And so Lolliposh was born…so if you’re a mom, mom-to-be, or know a mom who would love to save money on some fantastic items for their children–spread the word!  And I hope to see you there…

Amazon sweetens the savings even more with launch of new “Amazon Mom” program

I didn’t think Amazon could get any better…but I was wrong!

In addition to their Subscribe and Save program where you can save 15% on household products and especially on baby items like diapers, wipes, shampoo, lotion, etc.–they’ve now launched a new program called “Amazon Mom“. Their “Mom” program bumps up the savings by another 15%, and also offers FREE Amazon Prime Membership, as long as you purchase $25.00 in products each month (see details below) That in itself is a phenomenal savings, as Prime costs about $80.00 per year, and they’ll do a pro-rated refund to your account if you’re already a Prime member. Gotta love that!

Here’s what the program offers:

30% off select diapers and wipes:  As an Amazon Mom, you receive an additional 15% discount on top of the standard 15% discount on select diapers and wipes when you sign up for Subscribe & Save delivery.

FREE Two-Day Shipping with Amazon Prime:  When you join Amazon Mom, you will receive FREE Two-Day Shipping with Amazon Prime for the first 3 months of your membership.  For each $25 you spend within a single order in the Baby store, we’ll grant you an additional month of Amazon Prime shipping benefits. You can earn up to one year from the date you joined Amazon Mom.

• Exclusive e-mail discounts and offers

Best of all, there’s no cost to join it’s completely free! All you have to do is create an Amazon account or login to your existing account, and tell them whether you’re a Mom, Dad, or other caregiver of a child. (So it’s not just limited to “mom’s”, but Amazon says naming the program Amazon Caregiver just didn’t have quite the same ring to it.)

I just signed up, and the cost of one package of Pampers Baby Dry Size 5 is down to about $28.00$12.00 less than I would pay at Babies R Us, and best of all–I avoid having to pay that pesky sales tax, for even more savings.

So what are you waiting for? Sign up for Amazon Mom today…and start saving!
